No further COULD she go...
No further could she go, for the woods had encompassed her. Now the roots of the trees were slowly penetrating her feet, her hands and now her soul. Rooted to the spot she searched for an answer, for that ‘something’ that would offer her a way out. Completely still were her limbs; her mind whirling in suspension while all along the ‘seeming’ roots of the forest penetrated further and further into her. What should she do? What could she do? The dark forest only allowed the minutest rays of light through and even the air seemed trapped in that dark place!
She opened her eyes momentarily breaking contact with that place. The dark forest faded into a myth that existed only in never ending daydreams. She sat motionless as her mind whirled in suspension- searching for an answer, for that ‘something’ that would offer her a way out while the world whirled past; as did time. The vines of an ivy crept through the barrier of myth and reality, winding themselves around her slowly and gently until they having attracted a flicker of attention, violently tugged her back into waking dream.
Always the forest called to her. ‘Not even the brave and sharp witted Odysseus could resist the call of the Siren and I have no Circe to advise me or loyal sailors to bind my limbs. What can I do? What could I do?’ she would console herself over and over again as she fell from reality into that shallow myth that existed in the nightmare of her waking dreams.The roots of that ominous place bloodlessly pierced her feet, her hands and her soul, every time faster and deeper than before. She had no Circe nor loyal sailors for she trusted no one. No further could she go for the woods had encompassed her....
