J'arrive à la ville

This city heaves around me. There is a pulse of life here that lends itself to creative expression, there is a pulse of something that makes you want to move... to ‘become’. After making my home in Granada, Paris I must admit overwhelms me. I am mustering up the courage to do what Lhasa De Sela spoke of her in one of my all time favourite songs- I say to myself everyday ‘Je monte la rue comme un géant, ça c’est la ville et ça c’est ma vie’

I met a very interesting woman the other day in a little cafe near where I am staying, it was one of those necessary yet unexpected chance meetings- she really got me thinking about creative expression within urban environments. I am not sure where I am with that trend of thought but I thought I would share what shouts out to me when I think about that in some pictures I have taken so far...

I really believe that one can find a lot of beauty and inspiration in the mundane. I enjoy seeing everyday things and exploring how they can be manipulated until the point that they 'seem' interesting and almost captivating...

For the energy of 'seeming' and 'becoming' to be widespread there must be movement everywhere. That is what I see in urban landscapes- effectively it is a landscape without history that is only looking forward. To be still is to reflect to sometimes dwell in the moment or in the history that brings us to now. When I speak of history I speak of human patterns and not dates...

As I said before this city is overwhelming - or maybe the pressing questions of 'What shall you become?' and 'what do you want to seem to be?' is overwhelming...'Seeming' and 'becoming' over 'being'
